Engine Conversions
Honda K20 and Audi 20V turbo engine conversions into Lotus models are a very popular option for achieving large power increases, over what’s available by tuning the original K-Series and Toyota engines. Over the years we’ve gained extensive experience of both Honda and Audi-powered cars. Through that experience we’ve gained the knowledge required to keep your Honda or Audi converted car in peak condition.
JSRacing Audi 20V turbo Conversions
Developed and perfected on our own race-winning Exige, where it competed in Class C of the Elise Trophy between 2007-2009 (before the class was ‘out-lawed’), the JSRacing Audi engine conversion has proved to be a powerful, reliable, and very user-friendly option.
We have concentrated on engine placement, for both weight distribution and drive train reliability, achieving better driveshaft angles than with the original engine. Our gear change mechanism is another key feature, with many customers commenting it provides the best gear change of any Lotus they have driven.
Entry-level conversions start at 270bhp, with high-end builds producing in excess of 500bhp.
Prices depend on many factors as everybody has unique requirements and no two of these high end cars are ever the same. Some example packages and prices are detailed below.
Prices vary according to several factors including condition of receiving vehicle (brakes, wheel bearings etc.) and whether you want to use the original parts (engine, gearbox etc.) to offset the cost of the conversion parts.
Honda-Powered vehicles
While we don’t carry out our own Honda engine conversions, we have extensive knowledge of tuning, servicing and maintaining Honda powered road and race vehicles, including naturally aspirated (NA) and super charged (SC) examples. Please call us with your requirements and we’ll be happy to help.
Audi conversion examples for S2 Toyota engined cars
Its common knowledge that any increase above standard output with the Toyota power train is expensive and can be unreliable, especially in the transmission department.
If you are looking for more power and increased reliability from your Series 2 (Toyota engine) Lotus, then look no further than an Audi 20 valve Turbo conversion from JSR. Our conversions offer a huge performance increase over the standard Toyota unit, with the scope to increase the power further at a later date. This coupled with the great resale value of your second hand Toyota engine, gearbox, driveshafts, supercharger kit and ECU etc. make these conversions excellent value for money. Please see example second hand parts prices at the bottom of this page.
The car following conversion has the same docile driving manners in traffic and at low speeds as the standard car, returning acceptable fuel economy and levels of comfort. But when on the open road, or on track, the additional performance takes the car to another level.

Then on the open road or track, with over double the power of the NA standard car, the performance is truly electric. Power delivery is instant and relentless! Optional Upgrades
Big Port Head
A big port head will further increase the amount of air the engine can flow. Increased power and torque across the rev range is the result. This upgrade is available for Stage 1, 2 & 3 conversions. Expected power increase will be between 15 and 30bhp depending on which conversion it is applied to. Notable features of this upgrade include:
Crack & pressure tested large port head
New valve guides
Inconel exhaust valves
Stainless steel inlet valves
ARP head bolt kit
£1,266.00 + VAT (As part of Stage 1 engine conversion)
£357.00 + VAT (As part of Stage 2 & 3 engine conversion)
Oil Cooler Kits
Depending on the base model of the car to be converted, you may have two, one or indeed no oil coolers. We recommend at least one air to oil, cooler on the Stage 1 conversion and two oil coolers on Stages 2 & 3. Our recommended solution is as per Lotus fitted to the twin oil cooler cars.
Upgrade from no oil coolers to twin front mounted oil coolers, to include all pipes, brackets, ducts, fittings and pipework, when done as part of an engine conversion.
£705.00 + VAT (As part of any engine conversion)
Upgrade from one oil cooler to twin front mounted oil coolers, to include all pipes, brackets, ducts, fittings and pipework, when done as part of an engine conversion.
£212.00 + VAT (As part of any engine conversion)
Drive by wire (DBW) conversion for non DBW cars
Depending on the base model of the car to be converted you may have a cable throttle rather than the latter Drive by Wire (DBW) throttle system. All of our conversions use the latest DBW technology and so non DBW cars need to be converted to this newer spec.
£502.00 + VAT (As part of any engine conversion)
Uprated Engine internals and capacity increase to 1.9ltr for Stage 1
This upgrade really does future proof the engine and will allow power in excess of 500BHP without any further internal upgrades (Note this is already included in Stage 2 & 3). Notable features of this upgrade include:
Forged pistons
Forged con rods
New valve guides
Inconel exhaust valves
Stainless steel inlet valves

Race Spec Engine Breather kit
This breather kit has been proven on our race car. It bolts to the block, very low down and allows breathing from the cam cover and the crank case. Any breathed oil is returned to the sump, while any excess pressure is vented to atmosphere (Note this is already included in Stage 3). Notable features of this upgrade include:
Baffled Aluminium oil separator
Sump modified for oil return
Oil and Filter change
£732.60 + VAT (Drive in, drive out)
£328.60 + VAT (If done as part of Stage 1 or 2 engine conversion)

This flywheel will dramatically change the characteristics of how your engine picks up on the throttle. The engine will accelerate quicker and harder and will not labour under deceleration. The clutch is an uprated item that will handle in excess of 400BHP while retaining a light pedal and good in traffic driving manners (Note this is already included in Stage 3). Notable features of this upgrade include:

Limited Slip Differential
As you increase the power of your vehicle a limited slip differential (LSD) becomes an essential part of being able to transmit this power to the road. We have been using torsen type LSDs in our track and race cars to very good effect for many years. Our kit also includes an uprated cross bolt kit to ensure long term reliability (Note this is already included in Stage 3). Notable features of this kit include:
Torsen type LSD
